Our primary shipping source is FedEx. Best practices guidance in progress. For a list of important FedEx contacts, please see the attachment (updated 3/6/2023)
- Before beginning, try to get answers to the following questions
- How much does the package weigh?
- Is there a deadline for the shipment to arrive?
- Does this package need to be insured? If so, for how much?
- Is the shipping cost being billed to a project?
- On the FedEx website, https://www.fedex.com/en-us/home.html Log in using the AdminTeam@tooledesign account > go to Shipping > Create a Shipment
- Check that office address is in the “From” field. If not, click on + Edit and input the return address
- Put the recipient’s address in the “To” section. Note that a phone number for the recipient is required
- Under Package & Shipment Details, input Ship Date and weight. Choose Service Type and Package Type.
- Note that FedEx branded packaging can ONLY be used for FedEx Express shipments. Shipping by FedEx Ground requires providing packaging.
- Under Billing Details, enter a description of the shipment and a project number to bill, if applicable.
- FedEx Express picks up in the Silver Spring lobby every weekday afternoon. If shipping FedEx Ground, take the package to a FedEx drop off location or use the Pickup/Drop-off section to schedule a pickup.
- Use the Shipment Notifications section to get email updates on the shipment status sent to the recipient. Also add recipients if there is a PM or other party who needs to be informed as well.
- Once the shipment information is entered, use the Rates & Transit Times to compare shipping times and costs. Select the least expensive shipping method that fits the desired delivery timeframe.
- Click Ship at the bottom of the “Complete you Shipment” section.
